Investing in a quality sterling silver or gold ring is an exciting process. Selecting from our hand-carved artworks, styles and precious metals (or creating your own custom design) really gives you the opportunity to put your own personal stamp on your look. For many, it’s always seemed like a gamble; ordering a ring online but not feeling confident about the size you’ve chosen.
Let’s be honest, remembering your ring size isn’t quite the same as remembering where you left your keys. So, when it comes time to select your unique ring, choosing your size can add a level of uncertainty to the process.
In this article, you’ll find how to choose the right ring size for your finger.
Measure your ring size at home
Before purchasing your ring online, we recommend measuring your ring size at home. This process only takes a couple of minutes, and provides total peace of mind when it comes time to purchase your ring.
One of the quickest and easiest ways to measure your ring size at home is to purchase one of our ring sizers via our store. The ring sizer comes with instructions on how to properly measure your ring size, and it’s only $5; a small price to pay to ensure your ring is the best fit when it arrives.
You’ll need a few tools to complete this process, but the good news is you’ll likely already have these tools laying around your house. You’ll need:
- String or a piece of paper (if using paper, cut a long strip about 15mm wide and 100mm long)
- Scissors
- A marker or pen
- A ruler
Now, follow these three easy steps:
- To start, wrap the paper or string firmly around the base of your finger, where your ring would sit. TIP: The key is to wrap the material around your finger as firmly as you can (without the paper ripping or the string cutting into your skin).
- Make a mark on the paper or string where the two pieces overlap.
- When laid out straight against a ruler, the distance between the two markings is the circumference of your finger (in millimetres).
From here, you can reference your at-home measurement against our ring sizing chart.
Sizing Chart
When selecting a ring, be sure to double-check what sizing your jeweller uses in their store. At Dead Ivy, we use Aus/UK sizing, which uses the letters of the alphabet to determine sizing; the earlier the letter in the alphabet, the smaller the ring size. Accordingly, letters like F, G, and H are some of the smallest sizes available, and X, Y and Z are the largest.
Aus/UK ring sizes also go up in half sizes as well, allowing you to select a ring size most accurate for your finger.
Most online ring stores will include a sizing chart to help you determine the ideal ring size for your finger. You can find ours here.
Already have a ring that fits?
If you’ve already got a ring that fits your intended finger quite well, you can find out the size of that ring in a couple of ways:
- Measure the diameter of your existing ring
Take a ruler and hold it from edge to edge of your ring and measure the inside distance between each edge. You can then reference our sizing chart to determine the ring size of your existing ring.
- Visit your local jewellery store
One of the most accurate ways to find out your ring size is to visit your local jeweller in store! Staff in store will be able to size up your finger and provide you with your appropriate size. You’ll be able to try on a few rings in store to get a feel for the best fit, and then, voila!
- Download a ring sizing app
There are a number of Ring Sizing apps available through Apple Store or Google Play, to take the guess-work out of finding your ring size. Simply visit your preferred app store and search for ‘Ring Sizer App’.

Refund or Returns Policy

At Dead Ivy, we are transparent about our refund policy. Not 100% happy with the ring/item? Just shoot us a message.
We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.
